We love collaborating with Natalie Matthews (@fitveganchef) -- her recipes always make our mouths water. In this vegan crab cake recipe, she uses Heart of Palm instead of crab meat for a unique vegan twist on crab cakes.

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise or vegan mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tsp. vegan Worcestershire sauce* (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp. flax meal**
  • ½ Tbsp. Old Bay seasoning blend
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • ⅛ tsp. cayenne pepper
  • ⅓ cup Longève Panko-Style Breadless Crumbs 
  • ½ cup Longève Plain Breadless Crumbs
  • ¼ cup finely chopped green onions
  • ¼ cup finely chopped red pepper 
  • 2 cans heart of palm, drained and finely chopped
  • 1-2 Tbsp. canola oil or non-stick cooking spray


  1. In a medium-size bowl, combine mayo, lemon juice, optional Worcestershire sauce, flax meal, Old Bay seasoning blend, garlic powder and cayenne pepper. Whisk until well combined.
  2. Add ⅓ cup Longève Panko-style Breadless Crumbs, green onions, red pepper, and hearts of palm. Using a spatula, fold the ingredients until well combined.
  3. Scoop 1/3 cup of the mixture into your hands, shape into patties, and set aside. Repeat until all the mixture is used. (6-7 cakes)
  4. Coat each cake with Longève Plain Breadless Crumbs. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once oil is hot, place cakes on the hot pan and cook for 2 minutes on each side or until golden. Flip using a spatula. Remove from heat and serve right away!

*VEGAN WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE: Traditional Worcestershire sauce contains anchovies, making it unsuitable for vegetarian and vegan cooking. Luckily, there’s a vegan alternative! Look for vegan Worcestershire sauce by the traditional version in the condiments aisle. Double-check the ingredients list to ensure it doesn’t contain fish.

**FACTS ABOUT FLAX: Flaxseed Meal is made from ground flaxseed, and it’s a great source of fiber and Omega-3 essential fatty acids. It can be used to thicken smoothies, bulk up burgers and baked goods or as a vegan egg replacer when mixed with water. You can find it at most grocery stores in the baking aisle.
